Bright Stars is a unique programme developed specifically for primary school aged children promoting physical and emotional expression in the three disciplines of musical theatre. Students will be encouraged to learn, explore, develop and create within a safe environment. They will receive reports twice a year on their progress and efforts.
The session will start with 30 minutes of preperation exercises in which Bright Stars, Shining stars and Performing Stars will work together. This will be followed by three micro sessions lasting 45 minutes each.
Drama: Students will learn about expressing character through physical expressions and will be expected to convey a small range of emotions by the end of this stage. Teacher lead role-play will be used frequently to inspire the students and create the right atmosphere for the context of the drama. They will learn many drama skills such as; freeze frames, characterisation, imagination, narration, creating tension etc.
Singing: Students will be introduced to different rhythms and tempos allowing them to deepen their understanding of music. They will be challenged with a range of songs from modern pop to well known musical theatre numbers. Projection will be a key focus during this stage, encouraging students to really push themselves when performing. Bright Stars may be taught singing with the Little Stars
Dance: These dance classes are designed to improve coordination and technique and give the opportunity to learn popular pop dance routines and musical theatre ensemble pieces. Students will be given the opportunity to devise their own routines in small groups and perform these to their peers to gain confidence.
Students will be taught in classes of no more than 20 in a professional dance studio with mirrored wall, drama studio and music room to maximise their ability to learn.
Teachers will recognise and nurture individual talent and children who excel in all three areas will be invited to move up to the next stage, from the age of 9.
